U.S. EV CHARGING NETWORK GROWS TO 183,000
NEVI targets 500,000 chargers nationwide, focusing on fast chargers for long-distance travel.
As of 2024, the United States has over 183,000 public EV charging ports, including both Level 2 and DC fast chargers. This marks a significant increase from previous years, driven by ongoing federal and state initiatives to expand the EV charging infrastructure. Among these, there are 43,152 DC fast charging ports spread across 10,662 locations, which are crucial for long-distance travel and fast recharging.
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to accelerate the deployment of EV charging stations across the U.S. Its goal is to build a network of 500,000 public EV chargers by 2030, focusing on fast chargers along major highways and Alternative Fuel Corridors.
The NEVI Program provides funding to states for building a reliable, accessible EV charging network, requiring stations with at least four 150 kW fast chargers, spaced no more than 50 miles apart, to support long-distance travel while advancing transportation decarbonization efforts.
